At Lammes Candies, we know there is nothing sweeter than sharing delicious confections with those you love. Our candies hold traditions and memories for countless customers, and one of the most important pieces of that tradition is that of our Chocolate-Covered Strawberries to celebrate Valentine’s Day. 

The history of chocolate-covered strawberries doesn't go back too far in time. This classic pairing that we know and love was crafted rather recently with an invention that happened in the 1960s by a confectioner, Lorraine Lorusso, out of Chicago. Fast forward to the late 1970’s in Austin, when David Lamme Teich introduced chocolate-covered strawberries at Lammes Candies. At first, customers wouldn’t even try the product; they were unsure about the flavor combination of the pairing. However, it didn’t take too long for customers to warm up to this sweet idea. As more and more customers sampled this classic duo, chocolate-covered strawberries quickly rose in popularity. Now with a cult-like following, we release our Berry Calendar every year so our customers in the Austin area know when these decadent chocolate-covered berries will be available. There is such high demand that we even began a pre-order process to ensure we have enough chocolate-covered strawberries to go around. 

This classic creation quickly became a part of our Valentine’s traditions at Lammes Candies. Every year, we have a line out the door waiting to pick up our coveted chocolate-covered strawberries. We have some customers buy for their sweethearts, others buy for their parents/grandparents, while others shower themselves with a little self-love. We have had customers for years begging us to ship these strawberries to themselves or their loved ones, but unfortunately, we aren’t able to do that. We have to ensure the quality of our berries, and the only way we can do that is in store pick-up. 

 I had the opportunity to work in our shop for Valentine’s Day and saw firsthand the excitement and pure happiness of our customers picking up their chocolate-covered strawberries.I was told, again and again, the same message: that we make the best chocolate-covered strawberries, and they come every year to get theirs from Lammes. This really resonated with me; the loyalty of customers coming to our shops to buy from us when they could easily pick up chocolate-covered strawberries at their neighborhood grocery store, but instead are intentional about purchasing our product because of the attention and care we place on our chocolate-covered berries. 

If you haven’t seen our Berry Calendar for 2026 yet, you should know that pre-orders for chocolate-covered strawberries for Valentine’s Day begin on February 2nd and go until February 11th. We accept pre-orders online or over the phone, but the pre-order is important as it ensures there will be a box of chocolate-covered strawberries with your name on it to pick up on the day of your choosing, whether it be February 12th, 13th, or 14th. If you do not pre-order, we can’t ensure there will be enough chocolate-covered strawberries when you come into the store. The berry calendar also shows all the other dates for our chocolate-covered berries in 2026, which you can see below.
